Things to Know About Our Re-Opening
SDOMG provides the maximum protection against coronavirus:
- SDOMG healthcare providers are tested every 1-2 weeks for COVID-19.
- Every member of our staff has tested negative.
- Every person will be scanned with an infrared (no-touch) thermometer upon entry to the clinic. Staff are also tested throughout the day. Anyone who has a low-grade fever will not be permitted into the office.
- All staff members wear masks to reduce the potential spread of the virus to patients.
- All patients are required to wear mask during their clinic visit.
- All surfaces are cleaned frequently with qualified antiviral disinfectants.
- Common areas, including doorknobs, will be cleaned every 30 minutes.
- We observe 6-foot social distancing in the entire office.
- In order to minimize contact, only critical staff members will remain on-site.
Our Reception Area
- We provide a virtual waiting room for those who prefer to wait in their vehicle. We will call you when your personal consultation room is available.
- If you prefer to wait inside, our reception area provides 6 feet of space for each person.
- We ask you to observe our One Patient / One Companion policy and ask that you do not bring more than one other person with you to your appointment.
- Your companion can stay in your vehicle and will be called when your visit concludes.
Virtual Care and Telehealth Visits
We will continue telehealth visits to ensure that our patients get the continued care they need during this pandemic. The video conference visit allows you to talk with our doctors face to face in real time in the comfort of your own home.
Here’s a quick overview of what you need to know:
- You can use any web-enabled device including smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers.
- Telehealth visits are available during our regular clinic hours from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, however, availability may be limited depending upon the schedule.
- Your virtual visit typically takes 15-30 minutes. It will begin promptly at the scheduled time.
- The video visit may take a few minutes to set up. Our staff will help with your set up prior to your appointment if needed.
- We are currently using Zoom for our Telehealth service. You will receive a link in your email prior to your appointment. You simply click on the link to get connected to the visit. If you are using Zoom for the first time, you may be asked to open an account and may be required to download the zoom app, both of which will take a few minutes to complete.
- If Telehealth is not an option for you, a telephone visit can be scheduled. Please note, telephone visits may not be covered by your health insurance.
Please contact your provider to determine the cost for the visit. A deposit may be required depending upon your insurance coverage.

Dr. Chris Rogers and his team at San Diego Orthobiologics Medical Group in collaboration with Personalized Stem Cells (PSC), Inc. conduct stem cell research at their clinic in Carlsbad, California. As medical director and principal investigator for these FDA approved clinical trials, Dr. Rogers realizes the potential that stem cell therapy may have for COVID-19 patients.
Currently, Personalized Stem Cells, Inc. is awaiting FDA approval to start a new clinical trial in COVID-19 patients. Recently, they were asked by the White House Task Force to apply for an expedited FDA review of their application to treat COVID-19 patients with stem cells. In preclinical trials, stem cells have been shown to improve the lung damage and inflammation caused by viral pneumonia.
Conducting COVID-19 Stem Cell Research
Doctors based in China and Israel published positive outcomes following their stem cell treatments. Israeli doctors announced that seven patients with COVID-19 experienced 100% recovery following stem cell treatment. PSC has collaborators in Wuhan and Beijing, where similar results have been reported.
To expedite the mass production of stem cells, PSC teamed up with Calidi Biotherapeutics, a San Diego based company which provided the pre-tested master cell line. These cells facilitated fast and efficient manufacturing of more stem cells, which will allow patients to receive treatment more quickly.
Pending FDA approval, the first clinical trial will be held in San Diego in a few weeks. PSC will apply for compassionate use approval for national and international use as well. Compassionate use is a way for patients who are not eligible for clinical trials to receive treatment. These patients have serious or life-threatening illnesses for which other treatments are not available.

Attend meetings, such as IOF, to learn from those who apply their training, skills and experience to this field. Read every article and textbook you can get your hands on. Continue to develop your diagnostic and procedural skills. Never forget our main purpose is to serve our patients.
IOF: Where do you see the field of Regenerative Medicine in 5 years?
Dr. Rogers: Ten years ago, regenerative medicine was reserved for patients who had failed all other treatment options. Today it has become evident that it will become the standard of care for many aspects of orthopedic care: preventative, nonsurgical and surgical. The variety of orthobiologic treatment options will grow exponentially requiring better treatment protocol standardization, regulatory compliance and massive amounts of clinical research. New FDA approved treatments will become available, the necessity of certain surgical procedures will diminish as will the number of people who suffer from chronic orthopedic conditions.

Dr. Rogers and Dr. Ambach met with Orthobiologic Physicians from around the world to learn new science and discuss research and ideas on Regenerative Medicine. They met with important people in the field, including Dr. Arnold Caplan, who is the founder of mesenchymal stem cells, the primary cells involved in the healing process.
This took place at the Interventional Orthopedic Foundation Scientific Meeting in February 2020.
